Research

My research interest and area includes networked multi-user virtualworlds (net-VEs) and their applications. Especially, the interactionbetween human participants, and also the interaction between the virtualworld and the participating humans are problem areas that raise a numberof interesting questions. The issues I am working on at the moment circle around interaction, control and coordination within net-VEs. These include teamwork, socialinteractions, communication and various other aspects that could be studiedmore thoroughly. The final focus area for my research is yet to be defined, but currentlythe high-intensity interaction originating from the world of 3D gamesis one of the main areas to study. At the moment, the working title ofmy thesis is "Rich Interaction in Networked Virtual Environments". Partial list of the conferencesI find relevant for my topics is now available! I started my research in Autumn 1999, but more emphasis will be putto this work during years 2000 to 2002. My goal is to finish my doctoralstudies sometime in year 2002! The research projects I am, or have been, involved with include thefollowing:PAULA (Virtual meetings and mobile telepresence)CyPhone (Future media phone concept)Monica (Value added services for mobile communication)Additional information concerning my activities can be found fromthe Game Design pages and fromthe LudoCraft team page. My additional research interests include game design, computer based learning and training, computer supportedco-operative work (CSCW),user interfaces and usabilityissues.
